Pushing the boundries

It’s a great feeling when a set of wheels finally arrive from Japan, the 2 or so month wait can feel like an eternity. Well at least it did for Julie.

Julie is the kind of person that doesn’t like change. So after enough persuasion on getting new wheels, she was still uncertain whether she made the right choice.

While the LXZ’s were halfway from Japan, I spent countless nights thinking about tyre setups. Julie told me “I want more poke and stretch”, after a while it became clear to me and ordered some Yokohama/ADVAN tyres.

Yokohama are a nice wide tyre that stretch very well as you will see in the coming images.

Late last week, the Weds finally arrived! So I ran around on Friday, to find a tyre place game enough to fit the 225/40 and 245/40’s onto the 10 and 11.5 inch wheels.

After multiple stores refused me, I headed out to Jax at Liverpool. I’ve heard many good things about them, so I figured I’d give them a shot. They had absolutely no issues stretching the tyres on.

All that was left was to get these monstrous wheels to fit under the S14’s factory panels. Camber settings are critical, too much camber and the wheels will foul on the BC coilovers, too little and tyre will be munched by the guard.

So I spent quite a bit of time pumping the rear end to get everything to work in harmony.

The front end had a few teething problems I didn’t expect. To mimic the rear fitment I opted to use a 25mm spacer. It’s not like I had a choice anyway.

The front wheels didn’t clear the brakes so they needed a spacer regardless, luckily this worked in our favour.

Anyway, I spent the weekend nights getting everything bang on and I think the results speak for themselves!

Best of all, Julie is happy with the new look. Which means I get to keep my balls! Win-win for me 🙂

Are the rear wheels concave? And what are the hub clearances on the wheels low disk?
